    General Information

The International Gap Junction Conference 2015

    Welcome

The Organizing Committee invites scientists, postdoctoral fellows and students from all over the world to attend and actively participate in the 2015 International Gap Junction Conference in Valparaíso, Chile. This Conference is an excellent opportunity to interact and discuss multiple aspects of the field with scientists from all over the world. We are planning a balanced program with platform and poster presentations focused on connexins, pannexins and innexins, but we cannot do this without you. In addition to the main meeting we invite PhD students and postdocs to participate in a workshop about electrophysiologicaly techniques applied to the study of hemichannels and Gap Junction channels that will start a week prior to the conference. We are counting on your active participation to make this possible. We hope to see you and welcome you in Valparaíso!

Please check this website later for updated information about the program, guidelines and satellite workshop.

    Thank you

    About Valparaíso

Valparaíso and its neighboring cities are home to about one million people. However, Valparaíso itself is a small city of about 200,000 inhabitants, making easy for people to walk and use public transportation. The World Heritage List by UNESCO in 2004 included the historic quarter of Valparaíso. The hills, Cerro Alegre and Cerro Concepción, are at the heart of its historic quarter and are an important touristic attraction due to its many bars, pubs, restaurants and small hotels, including the best boutique hotels in the country. The fifteen urban elevators (funiculares)-heritage of the industrial revolution- and the trolleybuses (the oldest in the world that still work) are two unique characteristics of the city. All these things provide a unique image and atmosphere to the city.
Valparaíso is just one and half hours from Santiago’s International Airport and the city of Santiago, making national and international travel easy. From this airport, connections are possible to the major touristic attractions in the country, including Patagonia (Torres del Paine), the Atacama Desert (San Pedro de Atacama), and Rapa Nui (Easter Island). In addition, Valparaíso is two hours away from the main ski resorts in Latin America , such as: Portillo, La Parva, El Colorado and Valle Nevado.

    Convention Center

The Convention Center is in Valparaíso’s Cultural Park (PCdV), a major cultural center of contemporary architecture and public space of 1.5 ha (3.7 ac). The Center boasts an auditorium with a capacity of 307 seats, a restaurant, and an exhibition hall of 462 m2 (4,900 ft2) in which all posters will be displayed throughout the entire length of the conference. Valparaíso Cultural Park is a ten minute bus ride from the Ibis hotel; the hotel will provide transportation between these two places.

    Accommodations

There are two main hotels associated with the 2015 International Gap Junction Meeting, the recently opened hotel Ibis  and the Diego de Almagro hotel . Both hotels are located in the very heart of the city a walking distance from the National Congress building, the harbor and the convention center. (Click on the link to make your room reservation in one of these hotels).

Some of the attendees may prefer to stay in one of the boutique hotels (restored historic homes) of Valparaiso, or in hostels at a convenient low cost. There is a list of recommended hotels/hostels under the “Hotel Information” menu tab.

About the main organizing institution (CINV)

The Centro Interdisciplinario de Neurociencias de Valparaíso (CINV), is a Chilean Scientific Millennium Institute that is a Center for Research in Neuroscience. The CINV is building new facilities for research in the core of Valparaíso’s UNESCO heritage area. At the CINV, we will offer a workshop to learn about both, fluorescence and electrophysiological techniques in order to study gap junctions and hemichannels.
