Among other achievements, this has allowed them to determine the structure-function relationships for potassium channels and for other channels such as the pain and temperature sensors TRPV1, TRPM8 and TRPV4. Simulations of neuronal excitability allowed us to mathematically interpret the contribution of the TRPM8 channel to the sensation of cold. Using large-scale molecular simulations, the researchers have contributed to the understanding of how pore dimensions in the cell membrane determine ion transport in potassium channels. Large-scale brain dynamics simulations, using real data from the human connectome, have advanced the understanding of the effect of neuromodulators in the brain.
