CINV Postdoctoral Fellowship Program 2017

The Centro Interdisciplinario de Neurociencia de Valparaíso (CINV, http://cinv.uv.cl), at the Universidad de Valparaiso in Valparaiso, Chile, invites young postdoctoral researchers to apply for a Postdoctoral Fellowship at the CINV. The purpose of this program is to support outstanding and highly motivated PhD graduates from any country who wish to initiate or continue a scientific project in one of CINV’s labs, which are:

The successful candidate will receive a one-year fellowship. A second year of funding will be subject to competitive renewal. Granted CINV fellows are expected to apply in May 2017 for external funding [e.g. FONDECYT http://www.conicyt.cl/fondecyt] to support their following years at CINV.

The monthly salary will be 1.5 million Chilean pesos, equivalent to ~2250 USD at present. A formal agreement between CINV and the awardee will establish the legal conditions of this scholarship.

 

Requirements:

I.          PhD or equivalent obtained within five years prior to March 1st, 2017.

II.        The following documents to be included in the application:

            1.         Research statement

            2.         CV, including principal publications and activities (Max. 3 pages)

            3.         Research proposal (Max. 3 pages), including:

                        a)         Summary (1 page)

                        b)         Methods and Analysis

                        c)         Gantt chart, indicating specific objectives to be fulfilled

                        d)         Expected results and projections

            4.         Two letters of recommendation, including one from the PhD tutor.

            5.         A letter of commitment from the CINV researcher at whose laboratory the project will be carried out (http://cinv.uv.cl/en/researchers/).

 

Antecedents, letters of recommendation and commitment should be electronically sent to postdoc@cinv.cl before the 10th of January, 2017. Applicants unable to deliver with all the required documentation should provide a clarifying statement. No documents will be received after this deadline.

 

A review panel of CINV researchers will communicate the results of this competition by January 16, 2017. The panel reserves the right to declare the competition void if none of the applicants are deemed suitable.

Ph.D. Program in Neurosciences, Call for applications for 2017

 

 

 

 

 

 

Our program is designed to train researchers interested in the development, structure, and function of the nervous system. The strengths of the Program are in molecular physiology and biophysics, computational neuroscience, sensory neuroscience, neural plasticity and neuropathology, and the development and neurogenetics. Our program exists since 2002 and is accredited until 2017.

All Chilean or foreign student accepted into the program are guaranteed funding for four years.

The call for admissions for 2017 is open until October 21th, 2016. Applicants should follow the

Severin Building in the news!

 

 

This is the Severin building, one of the foundational buildings of the “Barrio Puerto” (Port City) at its birth in the sixteenth century. Today it is completely abandoned as a result of fires and earthquakes; however, it will be reborn with the construction of the Interdisciplinary Center for Neuroscience of Valparaiso.

Book release of “ La Alegría de la Ciencia”

The release of the “La Alegría de la Ciencia” book was done during a very nice ceremony. The book is illustrated by Bettina Castro and written by Kathleen Whitlock, director to the program “ Ciencia Al Tiro”, CINV.

Second Season NeuroNews

The publications that resulted from an agreement between El Mostrador Cultura+Ciudad and the Centro Interdisciplinario de Neurociencia de Valparaíso, (CINV) have returned.

Their main objective is to bring neuroscience to the community through articles written by PhD Students.

This is its second season and plans to include a diversity of subjects including forensic neuroscience and stress during breastfeeding.

The opening of two Max Planck Research Leaders positions (MPTRG) in the area of Neurosciences and Computational Neuroscience was announced. These positions are the result of an agreement between The Interdisciplinary Center for Neuroscience of Valparaiso (CINV), the University of Valparaiso (UV), and the Max Planck Society (MPG)

“We hope that this pilot project will allow the government to see that this is a good initiative that will lead to the hiring of talented junior investigators”.

International Gap Junction Conference 2015

The International Gap Junction Conference, 2015 was held in Chile for the first time. It was organized by CINV investigators Juan Carlos Sáez and Agustín Martínez  and by Viviana Berthoud (USA). It was attended by scientists from 46 different countries, contributing to make  Valparaíso an “Epicenter of Science”.

Juan Ignacio Molina building

The construction of our new building started on January 28 in the “Barrio Puerto” (Port City).

The start of construction of the Abate Molina building, which will house the Interdisciplinary Center for Neuroscience, was marked with a ceremony held in the Ex Severin building. The ceremony was attended by Mr. Aldo Valle, President of the University of Valparaiso, Dr. Ramón Latorre, Director of the CINV, Ricardo Bravo, Mayor of the Region of Valparaiso, and Claudia Silva, Director of Architecture of the MOP (Ministry of Public works).

Interdisciplinary center for the health innovation, CIIS

A significant alliance lead by Dr. Alan Neely was forged between the Faculty of Medicine, UV, the CINV and the Max Planck Institute.

Its main objective is to integrate scientific and medical knowledge in order to develop better diagnostics and therapeutic tools.
